United States-Swine flu nothing to do with Pigs (Hogs).

At this time, it has to be noted that only the World Health Organization is calling this flu outbreak the swine flu. H1N1 is its name, and it closely resembles influenza type A, Bill Hall, acting assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services, said in an e-mail. No cases of H1N1 have been found in any north American hogs. This is not an animal food and health safety issue.

The swine flu is now being called H1N1 virus for one reason. People stopped buying pork. It should also be noted that states with a heavy concentration of hog farmers have had no H1N1 break out either. It is transferred by humans to humans.

I have a brother-in-law who is a hog farmer in the Halifax County, North Carolina. His name is Keith Davenport he currently farms 11,000 hogs. In a conversation with Keith last week, we spoke about H1N1 virus for one simple reason this strain of swine flu has nothing to do with pigs. It was not contracted from touching pigs. It has shown also to be an avian virus as well as a human virus. It contains three different strains of genetically altered influenza.

It was simply a jump to a quick conclusion which everyone is now trying to escape. It could have just as easily been called an avian flu or just H1N1 new strain type whatever. But the facts stand it started in Mexico a country with very lax regulations regarding influenza swine vaccinations. In the rush to put a name on this the WHO has realized it made a mistake.

They now understand that they have caused a major rift in the purchase of pork and pork products. That because the WHO(World health Organization) was so quick to brand this strain as Swine flu thousands of hogs have been slaughtered across the globe.

The effects while not as dramatic in the USA have been far reaching for hog farmers across the Globe. They simply can not now take back everything they have said so are now in damage control. It is thought that this will bring around new regulations in Hog Farming. But more than that it will bring a change in how the WHO releases Information to the public. The first thing any hog farmer will tell you this had nothing to do with hogs.
