Tyson Foods Inc. holds its annual meeting Friday, the first meeting since Leland Tollett took over as interim president and chief executive officer last month.

The meeting takes place in Springdale, Ark., where the company, the world’s largest meat producer, is based. Executives, including Tollett, will talk to the media afterward.

Tyson has been undergoing changes as it tries to weather a downturn in the industry. Tollett, a former Tyson CEO, was tapped to temporarily return to the company after the abrupt resignation of Richard Bond last month.

Tollett was CEO of Tyson from 1995 until he retired in 1998 after nearly 40 years with the company.

The company, like other meat makers, has been suffering due to volatile prices for key inputs like corn and grains, and slumping demand as cash-strapped consumers abandon eating in restaurants. There’s also an oversupply of meat on the market, which keeps prices down.

Last month the company said it posted a loss in its fiscal first quarter, which ended in December. It also said it has started shedding production in its unprofitable chicken business. Tyson said given the moderation in input prices and its momentum, it expects to return to profitability in the next two quarters.
