United States-Woman attacked by a cow.

UNITED STATES.

WOMAN CHARGED BY COW.

A woman in Boulder was the victim of a very unusual run-in with a cow on Monday afternoon. Park rangers say she was riding her bike on the South Boulder Creek Trail when she stopped to let a cow in her path pass by. Instead, the animal charged at her, knocking her down, and stepped on her legs.

"You see cattle every day on the open space lands," said city spokesman Steve Mertz. "You just give them some room but they’re generally very predictable."

Mertz says the attack is extremely rare, but this is not the first time. In 2003, a woman was charged at by a cow after accidentally walking between the animal and its newborn calf. In this week’s case, the cow may have also had a reason.

"The owners have reason to believe the cow may have had a broken femur so that may have had something to do with the attack," added Mertz.

On the trail, visitors were more than a little surprised to hear of the incident. Shana Myers says she keeps an eye out for coyotes, but never thought of farm animals.
