Uruguay-Drought worsens.

DROUGHT OFFICIAL.

Following weeks of farmers demands for emergency support, the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries, in Uruguay admitted the seriousness of the situation in a press statement over the weekend and have declared a state of emergency.

The minister himself made a statement for the national television and press, saying " This is very serious for livestock and food production, for farmers families and the lack of good rain. Summer crops have not been planted and the forecast rains for the first week of January did not appear, we are concerned for the 32,000 families that are directly involved in the drought area and the government will do all in its power, to assist them".

The unusually hot summer has seen bush fires and drought that are not usual or normal in the country and the drought conditions are the worse in living memory.
