EXPORTS NEARLY DOUBLE.

Exports of beef, lambs, rice and soybean will reach close to US$10 billion in Uruguay for 2008, compared with US$6.7 billion for 2007.

The rise in price on the commodity markets has been a boost, coupled with the increase in the exports of beef and live cattle to Russia, Venezuela and the far east.

Lamb and sheep exports to the Middle East have doubled in the last year, both live sheep and carcass lamb and mutton.

40% of the farms in Uruguay are now farmed by Argentine consortiums, who prefer the tax system of the country, to that of Argentina.

Uruguay also enjoys a good international reputation for banking and service industries for the whole of Latin America.
