Video released to illustrate farmers 'Key Asks' to future Welsh Assembly Members

NFU Cymru has today released a video to illustrate to future Assembly Members its Key Asks ahead of the National Assembly elections in May.

The video aims to reiterate NFU Cymru’s 11 Key Asks for the next National Assembly and Welsh Government and is targeting this message at all the prospective Assembly Members.

The video, which complements NFU Cymru’s manifesto ‘Putting the Pieces in Place for a Productive, Profitable, Progressive Welsh Agricultural Industry,’ includes a Key Ask from every NFU Cymru county Chairman across Wales and is one of the many ways NFU Cymru is trying to get its message across in the run up to the elections in May.

Stephen James, NFU Cymru President, said: "We want National Assembly election candidates to familiarise themselves with our priorities.

"This video, along with our manifesto, sets out NFU Cymru’s vision for what we would like to see the next National Assembly and Welsh Government doing for Wales’ farmers and rural communities in practical and easily implementable policies, which if adopted will deliver growth and benefits for our countryside and Wales more generally.

"The last few years have proven turbulent for Welsh farming as the various sectors have moved in and out of profitability.

"We have just emerged from a round of CAP reform which has caused some considerable upheaval to the industry, whilst the unresolved question of the UK’s ongoing membership of the EU continues to create an uncertain backdrop for agriculture."

Mr James concluded: "The role for the next Welsh Government is to help nurture the self-confidence that the industry needs to meet these challenges and to create an environment that will encourage investment, innovation and attract new entrants and thereby help secure the industry’s future."

Hustings meetings have been organised across Wales in the run up to the elections and this video will be at every meeting to ensure that the prospective candidates have NFU Cymru’s Key Asks at the top of their agenda.
