WALES-FARMERS UNION OF WALES.
Controversial EU plans to introduce electronic identification (EID) of sheep and goats and vaccinating livestock against Bluetongue will be high on the agenda when the Assembly’s chief veterinary officer and a Plaid Cymru MEP visit a Meirionnydd farm this Friday (January 30).
Christianne Glossop and Jill Evans will call at former Farmers’ Union of Wales Meirionnydd county chairman Alun Edwards’ farm, Cae Coch, Rhydymain, near Dolgellau, at 2pm. Mr Edwards has already vaccinated his livestock against Bluetongue and plans to raise the union’s strong objections to EID.
The visit will be followed by the county’s AGM at Fronolau Farm Hotel, Dolgellau, at 7.30pm when Dr Glossop and Ms Evans will be guest speakers. Members of the media wishing to attend the farm visit and/or the AGM should contact the FUW’s Meirionnydd county executive officer Huw Jones on 01341 422298 as soon as possible.
