Wales-New conditions proposed on TB compensation.
WALES.
TB PAYOUTS.
There is to be an overhaul of the Welsh TB compensation scheme, as the Welsh Assembly is determined to crack down on the disease of bovine TB, which is costing the tax payers 25 million pounds US$39 million a year.
On Friday a paper was published by the Assembly, linking the compensation payments to good farming practices, in relation to disease.
Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones, said the options relate to overdue testing, bio-security risk management and the linking of compensation payments to good practices.
She went on to say, " The Welsh Assembly Government is currently obliged to pay compensation for cattle removed as part of the TB eradication scheme in Wales, irrespective of herd owners actions, which can have both positive and negative impact on disease control".
Changes to the system were promised, when the government launched a 27 million pound US$40 million TB Eradication scheme in 2008.
