Welsh lamb sales pass New Zealand

Sales of Welsh lamb have overtaken New Zealand lamb for the first time in the main Meridian TV sales target area of south-east England.

And from being the least recognised type of lamb with just 7% in September 2005, it is now the people’s favourite at 29% to New Zealand’s 24%. And Welsh lamb has climbed to first place in the People’s Choice advertisement award, ahead of Marks and Spencer, Yellow Pages and Levi jeans.

These marketing achievements were spelled out to the annual conference of the Welsh meat promotion agency Hybu Cig Cymru in Nantgaredig, Carmarthenshire last week.
