AUSTRALIA-GM FOOD DEBATE ROLLS ON.

The debate over the decision to allow trials of genetically modified canola continues in Western Australia .

The Greens’ Paul Llewellen has put a motion to WA’s upper house, calling for further debate and discussion over the trial.

He says he’s worried the canola season will start before there’s been proper debate.

"This is a very small window," he says.

"We’ve only got a few weeks before it starts raining and people start planting. But if this is blocked in the upper house, it raises another question if we’ll have to pull these plants out of the ground."

WA’s Agriculture Minister Terry Redman says the Government’s allowing trials first and isn’t diving straight into commercial GM canola.

He says he has an open mind on the issue.
