Wiseman's price move marks start of better times, says NFU

NFU dairy board chairman Gwyn Jones has responded to the announcement that Wiseman’s is to increase its milk price by 0.3ppl from August 1 2009.

Mr Jones said: "I am very encouraged by Wiseman’s price increase which marks the start of better times in the liquid market. Although not a huge rise in isolation, I believe that all liquid producers can now look forward to price rises from their buyers, given that they are all quick to follow the leader when prices drop.

"After suffering nothing but price cuts and bad news since the start of the year, this allows farmers to be slightly optimistic about where prices will go. The news that Wiseman’s will be holding its price for the next two months will also give farmers a short period of stability. As an industry we must look at ways of creating longer periods of stable prices, but this is a promising start."
