World Bank to Build Tomato Processing Company in Kano

The chief executive of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council NEPC, Mr. Abubakar Lawal, has hinted on a plan by the Kano State government to set up a tomato processing company with the assistance of the World Bank.

The farm fresh centre which will be located in Kura town Mr. Lawal said, will enhance export activities, create job opportunities and increase income generation which will in turn eradicate poverty.

Mr. Lawal who gave a keynote address during the opening ceremony of a-two-day train the trainers workshop held at the Royal Tropicano Hotel, also disclosed that the state council is planning to set up a human capital development centre for which a company, Adhama Germents, have been studied for that purpose.

He revealed that in an effort to promote the non-oil export sector in the country, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council has embarked on the building of the N50million leather work company in Aba Common Facility Centre, adding that the project is expected when completed to enhance leather products for export.

According to him, among the council's programmes are a plan on improving the Human Capital Development Centre, Lagos, in order to meet AGOA specifications, the improvement of Cut Flower Project in Jos with a view to meet export standard, Sesame seed increased production in Nasarawa State and the Best farming practices in order to improve quality and quantity of the product.
