Young Farmers step into the spotlight
YOUNG farmers swapped life in the great outdoors for ’the smell of the greasepaint and roar of the crowd’ when they took part in their annual Entertainments Competition.
The contest, sponsored by the Cheshire Show, was run throughout November and part of December and involved Young Farmers’ Clubs from across the county.
Winners of three heats were then invited to put on their mini ’shows’ at a Grand Final event held at Winsford Civic Hall, last Thursday, December 7.
Those taking part in the final were Young Farmers’ Clubs from Nantwich, Malpas, Beeston and Congleton.
And they wowed the audience with a selection of shows including a pantomime and even a version of the X Factor!
After a nail-biting final, Malpas Young Farmers’ Club clinched the winners’ trophy for their Robin Hood panto.
Nigel Evans, Cheshire Show’s Executive Director, was one of the judges at the Grand Final.
He said: "Winsford Civic Hall was packed out and everyone taking part pulled out all the stops to put on a thoroughly entertaining evening. There was such an array of variety and talent that it was difficult to choose an overall winner.
"The Cheshire Show was delighted to sponsor the event and would like to congratulate The Cheshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs for organising the heats and final so professionally."
Preparations are now underway for the 2007 Cheshire Show with some exciting new attractions planned for when the two-day event taking place on June 19 and 20.
