Firefighters have pumped water out of a flooded farm to save 900 trapped pigs in North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted at 11:36 that 900 pigs were trapped by water at Keldholme Piggery near Pickering.

Three fire crew worked to save the hundreds of pigs - which were trapped in the flooded piggery.

Crews from Pickering, Malton and Kirbymoorside attended the farm to rescue the hundreds of stranded pigs.

The trapped animals were moved into evacuation pens away from rising water.

The farmer was "very appreciative" the crews saved the animals, the fire service said.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "The pigs were in approximately two feet of water.

"An evacuation pen was set up to move the pigs, our crews were on the scene for some time."
