NFU Sugar to share reform agenda at beet UK

The NFU is encouraging sugar beet growers to attend one of three Beet UK seminars to be held on Wednesday, October 19.

NFU sugar board chairman Mike Blacker and Karl Carter from British Sugar will outline the latest thinking on the EU Sugar Reform proposals and their thoughts on the future of the industry.

Mr Blacker said: "I think it is incredibly important that sugar beet growers get together, not only to share the latest information, but also to set out what we believe will be the shape of a viable future industry.

"Although our industry is already highly efficient, the NFU will continue to work hard to achieve the best possible outcome for our growers. Most importantly we need to ensure a fair deal on compensation, an equitable future market free of competitive distortion and a balanced and genuine partnership between grower, processor and UK Government."

NFU President Tim Bennett echoed those sentiments: "It is important from a business planning point of view that sugar beet growers hear the most up-to date information on the reform process and have the opportunity to ask questions. I look forward to meeting our beet growers at this event."
