A Northern Irish farmer has been fined £1,400 for failing to dispose of animal carcasses on his farm and for animal neglect.

50-year-old Derek Trimble from County Down was convicted on Monday (15 May) at Newry Magistrates Court.

He was charged with two counts of failure to dispose of livestock carcasses.

He was also charged with two counts of failure to ensure the needs of animals were met to the extent required by good practice, one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a ram and two charges of failure to maintain veterinary medicine records.

This case arose from a number of welfare inspections carried out on Mr Trimble’s farm during March 2016.
