Arable land sale attracts interest

Shrewsbury-based agents Halls report keen interest in 267 acres of productive and versatile arable land at the northern end of the Corvedale in South Shropshire.

The land at Patton House Farm, Bourton, near Much Wenlock is for sale by informal tender with a guide price of £5,500 to £6,000 an acre. Farmed by the same family for more than 100 years, the land is being sold due to the retirement of owners Mr P. C. and Mrs J. R. Wadlow.

Tenders must be received by Halls, Welsh Bridge, Shrewsbury by noon on July 15. Available as a whole or in two lots, the south-facing, grade two arable land is divided into two blocks, comprising 181 acres north of the Brockton to Bourton road and 86 acres south of the road.

"This productive, easy working arable land has been farmed to a high standard," said Shaun Jones from Halls’ professional department. "The medium loam soil is free draining and on gentle south east facing slopes.

"The current crop rotation principally revolves around winter wheat and oilseed rape. Potatoes are also grown around the farm by a third party, illustrating the productive and versatile nature of the soil, which is also well suited to grassland."

Both lots have road access and a planning application has been submitted for a new access to lot one. A Countryside Stewardship Scheme for most of the land began in 2002 and will end in 2012.
