Cultivation Update - 24th August 2012

Marcus Ainley, Sumo Drill Specialist, comments on latest field conditions:

“Compaction problems this year from combines, trailers and balers and wetter than usual land conditions, may cause major issues for this year’s establishment campaign.

Remedial work may need to be done to alleviate any damage done by heavy machinery to the soil structure this autumn in the form of loosening tines to get under and lift compaction.

The loosening tines that feature on the Versaplus are for just such a purpose. The narrow low disturbance point is designed to fracture and lift under the surface down to a depth of 350mm with minimal surface disturbance leaving large clots and wetter soil where they are. The leading disc also opens up a tidy slot for the leg to work into and prevents trash build up around the leg.

A double row of cultivation discs can be set lightly in the ground to chop and level uneven and rutted ground and also to create tilth.

Also designed to cope with wetter conditions, are the large diameter wide profile press wheels mounted in a staggered formation. These carry and spread weight evenly across the width of the machine, gently consolidating the seedbed before?the pressure adjustable coulter system.”
