Zebedee springs into action with outstanding performance

Seed crops of new winter wheat, Zebedee have been harvested with results confirming the yield and quality data in this year's HGCA trials.

Adrian Howell, farm manager at Proctor Brothers, Lighthouse Farm, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, harvested two seed crops of Zebedee - both were first wheats. The early harvested crop, which was drilled mid-September after peas yielded 11.7 tonnes per hectare from 45 hectares. The later harvested crop, drilled mid-October after sugar beet and potatoes, yielded 10.8 tonnes per hectare from 16 hectares.

"What impressed me was that despite the break in the weather the variety's specific weight held up," says Mr Howells. "The earlier crop yielded well and gave a very good specific weight of 77, while the second crop harvested stood in the field for another 24 days yet was an equally nice crop and gave a specific weight of 74 despite the long delay."
