New initiative brings Tesco and local farmer together
Consumers in Edinburgh are set to become the first to benefit from Greenvale AP and Tesco Scotland's new initiative, which will see new season potatoes from Luffness Mains, Aberlady, East Lothian, delivered straight to selected stores on the same day as they are harvested making them the freshest in the city.
Duns-based Greenvale AP is running this initiaitive, the first of its kind in the Edinburgh area. Six selected stores in the Edinburgh and Lothian area will have loose new potatoes delivered straight from the farm to the store on the very same day that they are harvested, ensuring consumers can enjoy one of the nation's favourite seasonal products at its very best.
The first stores receiving fresh from the field potatoes include Tesco Haddington, Mussleburgh, Edinburgh Colinton, Corstorphine Extra, Edinburgh Broughton Road and Dalkeith Hardengreen Road.
The Stevenson family have been growing potatoes at their Luffness Mains farm for 95 years, Allan Stevenson commented: "We are delighted to be supplying our Scottish bred and owned potatoes to local customers. Our Vales Emerald potatoes are all grown locally to these Tesco stores. This initiative will be good for everyone who loves freshly grown potatoes, good for Tesco customers and good for the long standing reputation of Luffness Mains."
The initiative is the result of work between Luffness Mains and GreenvaleAP working with the Tesco Scottish Office to deliver more local, seasonal potatoes to stores in Edinburgh.
With consumers eager to know the exact origin of the food they eat, Tesco customers can look out for the in-store signage in participating stores highlighting the new season crop from Luffness Mains.
Angus Bell of Tesco Scottish office commented: "Scottish new season potatoes are always eagerly awaited by Tesco customers. We recognise that seasonality is hugely important to our customers and new season potatoes are a fantastic example of this. This exciting initiative helps preserve the anticipation for one of the nation's favorite vegetables."
