Olympus mounts new high for onion disease control

A new vegetable fungicide with a unique crop-safe formulation provides onion growers with exceptional broad-spectrum disease activity. Olympus is in an easy to use and cost effective option to include in disease control programmes.

Onion growers have a powerful new broad-spectrum fungicide available for this season, with Olympus providing excellent broad-spectrum control of key foliar diseases. The optimised co-formulation of azoxystrobin and chlorothalonil offers excellent crop safety, as well as an easier to use and more economic option for growers.

Syngenta Technical Manager, Jon Ogborn, reports trials have shown that in addition to label approval for the systemic and preventative control of Downy Mildew and Botrytis, Olympus has shown useful activity against Cladosporium.

"Once Downy Mildew infection starts, Botrytis and Cladosporium often come in on the back of the leaf damage, leading to severe green leaf loss affecting yield, harvesting and storage quality," advises Mr Ogborn. "Olympus gives growers an effective opportunity in the programme to control all three diseases."

Olympus is a new formulation for vegetables that offers excellent crop safety and efficacy. The pre-mixed Olympus formulation saves time for operators filling the sprayer and reduces the number of containers for washing out and disposal. "Additionally, it is a lower cost option than buying and mixing the two separate components." he says.

Growers are permitted to make two applications of Olympus per crop, although additional Amistar (azoxystrobin) + Bravo (chlorothalonil) applications may also be made, up to a maximum of 50% of total applications in accordance with FRAC guidelines.

The Olympus approval covers bulb onion, shallot and garlic production.
