Re-instatement of crops and new SOLAs for Signum
The protectant and systemic-acting fungicide Signum has had lettuce and strawberries re-instated to the label following their removal earlier in the year. In addition, blackcurrants have been added to the label together with a number of new off-label approvals for use in horticultural crops, adding to its already extensive list of label and off-label approvals.
"These new SOLA’s for Signum will really help growers who are increasingly struggling to find suitable and effective fungicides that can be used on their specialist crops," points out Simon Townsend, Agronomy Manager for BASF.
"It is worth reminding growers that Signum now has full label recommendations for use in broccoli/calabrese, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflowers, combining peas, field beans, vining peas, outdoor lettuce, protected lettuce, protected and outdoor strawberries and blackcurrants (including a post-harvest use in blackcurrants) – an impressive list, " says Simon.
"The new SOLA’s add significantly to this list and include crops of red, white and yellow chard, bulls blood, spinach, spinach beet, endive, leeks, forest nursery plants, leafy brassica crop grown for baby leaf production, a range of protected herbs, bulb onions, garlic, shallots, salad onions, asparagus, potatoes and poppy grown for morphine production. In the fruit sector new SOLA’s have been granted for protected and outdoor blackberries and raspberries, as well as outdoor redcurrants, whitecurrants, soft fruit in propagation, cherries, mirabelles and plums. All these SOLAs have been granted this year," reports Mr. Townsend.
Simon points out to growers that SOLAs (also referred to as a Notice of Extension of Approved Use) are used at growers own risk and that the SOLA Notice of Extension must be referred to for full conditions of use and specific restrictions. Growers intending to use a SOLA are required to know that, prior to application, they require a copy of the SOLA notification document, which they should keep with their records.
