A sheep has been brutally killed by having its throat and ears cut, near a North Yorkshire town.

North Yorkshire Police said the sheep was attacked in the Pannal area, near Harrogate, between Sunday, July 30, and Monday, July 31.

A police spokesman said the sheep’s throat had been cut, and its ears had been cut off.

He said: “Please remain vigilant in the rural area and report suspicious activity.”

Last month, lambs were killed and had their ears cut off in a bizarre attack on a Co Down farm, Northern Ireland.

Eight sheep had their ears sliced while three others were stabbed in the throat on a farm at Temple Hill Road, Ballyholland, near Newry.

Anyone with information for the North Yorkshire crime should phone police on 101 quoting reference 12170134993.
