Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans, is inviting views on revised plans that would change how farmers in Wales are compensated if their cattle are slaughtered because of bovine TB.
Rebecca Evans said: “Last year, I decided against the introduction of a table valuation system following a consultation with the industry.
"We need a compensation system that encourages cattle keepers to play their part in eradicating this disease from Wales so I am now consulting on introducing revised plans which would penalise cattle keepers who undertake risky practices, such as hiding or failing to present cattle for testing, valuation or removal, which can contribute to the spread of TB. I am keen to hear views on these proposals and encourage anybody with an interest to respond to the consultation."
The Deputy Minister also announced that the application window for a grant of up to £2,500 for livestock markets to purchase equipment, such as screens, to allow them to display the TB history of animals being sold, has been extended until the end of the year.
Rebecca Evans said: “As we have continued to receive interest in the grant I have decided to extend the application window until the end of the year. I encourage markets to make use of this funding whilst it is available.”
