Wholegrain ingredient producer Edme wins prestigious Food & Farming Award
The presentation of a highly contested award pays to grain farmers and the sections of the bakery and food production industries that use malted ingredients. It will also give a massive boost to the profile of malt. So says Peter Tichbon, managing director of wholegrain ingredient producer Edme.
“The Food and Farming Excellence Award is an accolade to the whole team at Edme, from technical and customer service to sales, delivery and quality control. They’ve worked tirelessly to make a real difference to customers – through innovation, product development, service improvement and technical support. And I’d like to thank them for all they’ve achieved.
“Crucial to all our operations is top quality grain – and we are fortunate enough to be supplied with wheat, rye, oats and barley by some of the country’s very best grain growers. These are turned into premium wholegrain malt by Crisp Maltings ready for us to mill into flour or roll into flakes for use the bakery and food industries. The award is as much a tribute to those farmers and maltsters as it is to us.

As Peter points out, malted flour and flakes are, by their very nature, wholegrain – and therefore have significant health benefits. They can be used liberally across many applications, adding nutritional value as well as enhancing taste, colour and texture.
The Food and Farming Excellence award was presented by Robert Rous from the Suffolk Agricultural Association at the East Anglian Business Awards. It was judged on investment, innovation, supply chain management, community involvement, customer service and business performance as well as contribution to local agriculture and the economy.
